About the Mailing List

The MRC mailing list can be found at http://uk.groups.yahoo.com/group/MidlandsRatClub_Members/.

This is a community group for members of the Midlands Rat Club, intended to provide a meeting place for all ages to discuss rats and enjoy the company of other members.

To Subscribe

To subscribe to this list you must first be a member of the Midlands Rat Club. To join, please submit your application form including your email address, indicating that you would like to join the mailing list. Once you're a club member you will receive an invitation to join the list. If you are already a club member, please contact the to request your invitation, or send a blank email to MidlandsRatClub_Members-subscribe@yahoogroups.com.

To unsubscribe either do so via your Yahoo account, or send a blank email to MidlandsRatClub_Members-unsubscribe@yahoogroups.com.

Posting Guidelines

You are expected to use your common sense to keep posts suitable for readers of all ages, to be polite and considerate, to stay on topic within reason, and to defer to the judgement of the moderators.

General enquiries about the running of the club should be directed to the appropriate committee member(s) shown on our contact page. The list is not intended as a forum for general club business as many members are not online.

If you can't keep to these guidelines your posts will be tightly moderated and you may be removed from the list.

Use of Yahoo Groups is also subject to the Yahoo Terms of Use.

Using the List

The list can function as a simple mailing list or as a Yahoo Group. You don't need to join the Yahoo Group to join the mailing list. Just send your emails to MidlandsRatClub_Members@yahoogroups.co.uk

Remember that if you use the reply button of your email program it will send your reply to the list. If you want to make a private reply, copy-and-paste the individual's email address into the To: line.

When you reply, please crop the original message to quote only the section that you are replying to.

Email List Only

If you don't want to use the Yahoo site to alter any of your settings or options, you don't need to sign up for a Yahoo ID. To change your settings using email, send a blank message to the appropriate address below:

The Yahoo Group

Joining the group requires you to register with Yahoo but enables you to post photographs and to send and read messages from the Yahoo site.

Once you have registered you can log in to the Yahoo Groups site at http://www.groups.yahoo.com to adjust your group settings and your account settings.

Settings for Individual Lists/Groups

On the My Groups page, click on the group name on the left sidebar (MidlandsRatClub_Members). On the MidlandsRatClub_Members page, click on the phrase Edit my Membership on the blue title bar. (This is also found on the right side in the Membership section).

This is where you specify that your preferences for this list only. Remember to click the Save Changes button after you make any changes.

Individual Messages

This is the default setting. It send the emails on to you as they are received by Yahoo!

Daily Digest

This groups the day's messages into a single email, delivered each evening.

Special Notices

This sends only special notices from the moderator through to your email account.

No Mail/Web Only

This allows you to read messages on the site, but does not send them through to your email account. It's also useful to keep your inbox clear if you are going away on holiday.

Account Settings

Click on the phrase Account Info on the top bar. Here you can view the information held about yourself. Have a good look around to make sure that any boxes offering to send you special offers are unticked.

Your Personal Profile can be created by clicking on Edit/create Profile in the Public Information sidebar on the right. Use the Edit buttons to make any changes.

Remember to click Save Changes or Finish after making any changes.

Email Abbreviations

A very quick rundown of some common abbreviations:

• AFAIK - as far as I know
• BTW - by the way
• FAQ - frequently asked questions
• FYI - for your information
• IMO - in my opinion
• IMHO - in my humble opinion
• LOL - laughing out loud
• LMHO - laughing my head off

Business and Politics List

DESCRIPTION

LIST RULES

1. Moderation - members must accept the judgement of the moderators. Moderators’ decisions are final.
2. General enquiries about the running of the club can be directed to the appropriate committee member(s) shown on our contact page.
3. The committee cannot be on call for instant responses to issues. Don’t take it as an insult if you don’t get an answer straight away.
4. This group is intended for business discussion. No personal attacks. This means YOU. Personal complaints about other members of the club should be made through the complaints procedure outlined in the club rules.
5. Decisions are made by elected committee members. If you really want to change things, join the committee.

PLEASE REMEMBER

You’re here for the rats. Try to keep the good of the club in mind.

Your committee members and club workers are volunteers. Harassment of them will result in no volunteers and no committee, that is, no club!

If moderating this list becomes too stressful, you’ll lose your moderator(s) and the list will be closed down.

If someone doesn’t meet your standards, the best place for them is within the club where they can learn.
