Message from the committee

Due to the continuing SDAV outbreak, and in an effort to break the chain of infection once and for all, the committee has taken the difficult decision to cancel our August shows - the club show at Sawley and the Fun Pet Day at Lichfield.

This means the MRC will be show-free from Mid-April through to early October.

With other national and regional clubs also cancelling their shows until September, we hope that this, combined with raising awareness and educating about the virus (please see the article by Ann Storey of the NFRS), will stop it spreading once and for all.

We would also ask that members, who believe they have infected rats, inform the committee so that we, as a club, can have an understanding of the scope/spread of the infection.

This is an unheard of occurance in the fancy and it calls for definite actions. There have been outbreaks of various infections before, but this one (for many reasons) appears to be continuing to spread - we ask that members are extra careful about transporting/sharing/mixing with rats (particularly those of unknown sources), at least for a couple of weeks.

We would also like to stress that there is no need for paranoia or panic, just consideration and a period of being extra cautious.

If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to ask. We will be informing the entire membership by way of a letter.

THE 2 WEEK GUIDELINE

To prevent the spread of infections, we request you not to bring rats to the show if you have attended a show or taken in rats within the past two weeks, particularly if a virus is known to be circulating. See the article Prevention is better than cure for more detailed advice.

To Enter Your Rat(s)

Enter using our online form or by email to

Close of entries is at 9pm on the Wednesday preceding the show.

Hire tanks are available for novice or first time show-ers. We only have a limited number of tanks available for hire, so we would ask that members who regularly show provide their own suitable tanks to allow novice entries priority

Health Checks

If you wish to exchange rats at this show please use our online form or contact the Show Organiser.

You must pre-notify details of any rats or small furries which will be taken to the show for collection. Descriptions and ages will be required. Only pre-arranged sales and exchanges may be made; animals must not be brought to be offered for sale at the show as this may cause legal problems for the club. Why do I need to notify the club?
